CAB was founded in 2011 with the aim of contributing to a public-private policy in biotechnology and the development of the sector, from a global perspective that integrates from research and development, to the production, marketing and export of biotechnological products. It brings together leading companies in various areas such as human health, food industry, animal and plant health, diagnostics, agricultural industry, forestry, industrial inputs and biofuels. The Argentine Chamber of Biotechnology (CAB) seeks to enhance Argentina’s leadership role in biotechnology at the regional level by contributing to the coordination of valuable joint work between actors from various sectors, with the aim of strengthening the country’s position in this field. | Founded in 2011, the Argentine Chamber of Biotechnology (CAB) is a non-profit civil association that brings together 38 leading companies with national presence. These companies allocate 4.6% of their sales to R&D and engage over 1,000 scientists. Its mission is to strengthen the biotechnology sector in Argentina by fostering links among companies, startups, academia, and public institutions, and by promoting sustainable solutions in health, agribusiness, energy, food, and the environment. It aims to position the country as a regional and global leader in biotechnology innovation. Its vision is to consolidate a robust biotechnology ecosystem based on innovation, collaboration, and excellence, with a strong international outlook and a firm commitment to sustainability. Objectives: ● Bring together ecosystem stakeholders to drive innovation. ● Promote the training of specialized talent. ● Encourage the sustainable use of biotechnology. ● Position Argentina as a regional leader. ● Support the internationalization of the sector. The chamber actively participates in public policy, represents companies before national and international organizations, and promotes the socio-economic impact of the sector. It also organizes seminars, training sessions, workshops, and networking spaces. The Chamber supports startups and fosters technology transfer, strengthening the global integration of Argentine biotechnology. Since its inception, it has brought together companies that apply biotechnology in agribusiness, human and animal health, industry, environment, and food. The chamber organizes BioArgentina (https://www.cabiotec.com.ar/bio-argentina) BioArgentina is the country’s main annual meeting for science, innovation, and biotechnology. For over a decade, BioArgentina has established itself as a strategic event for the national and regional biotechnology ecosystem. In previous editions, it has taken place in various cities across Argentina—such as Buenos Aires, Rosario, Córdoba, Mendoza, and Mar del Plata—gathering scientists, entrepreneurs, companies, investors, and policymakers to foster collaboration and business development in the sector. The event features an intensive program of talks, panels, and networking spaces that connect leading companies with researchers and young professionals. The BioBusiness Matchmaking Rounds (BioRondas de Negocios) generate strategic alliances and high-value networking opportunities. Organized by CAB and drawing close to a thousand attendees annually, the event positions biotechnology as a driver of economic growth, integrating actors from the private sector, academia, and government. It also promotes public policies, access to funding, and international integration. Startups are also part of the chamber, “CAB Startup” Launched in 2020, CAB Startup now includes 109 startups and 3 accelerators from Argentina, Uruguay, Chile, Brazil, Colombia, and Mexico. It offers mentoring, institutional representation, and networking opportunities with leading companies, facilitating technology transfer and the development of innovative solutions. This platform strengthens public-private collaboration and positions Argentina as a regional leader in emerging biotechnology.
