About

About VIB - Flanders Institute for Biotechnology VIB is an entrepreneurial life sciences institute situated in Flanders, Belgium. Based on a close partnership with five Flemish universities – Ghent University, KU Leuven, University of Antwerp, Vrije Universiteit Brussel and Hasselt University – and supported by a solid funding program from the Flemish government, VIB unites the expertise of all its collaborators and research groups in a single institute. Our institute has an excellent track record in translating basic scientific results into pharmaceutical, agricultural and industrial applications. VIB’s Innovation & Business team currently has a portfolio of +280 patent families. The team executes about 250 partnering agreements with innovative companies on annual basis. Furthermore, VIB Innovation & Business has established 24 VC backed start-up companies, employing +950 staff, over the past 24 years. Our goal for BIO2024 is to partner several opportunities in the fields of neurodegeneration, inflammation, infectious diseases and oncology. Last but not least, VIB has 10 institutional Core Facilities, providing support in a wide array of research fields and housing specialized scientific equipment and services for each discipline (e.g. bioinformatics, proteomics, nanobody production, bioimaging, protein production, spatial transcriptomics, single cell analysis and genomics). These core facilities can offer their services to academic and industrial parties.
