Formed in 1990 after the passage of a $.005 sales tax proposition, the TEDC works to attract new businesses and serve the needs of current businesses, industries, and citizens. The industrial incentive program is one of the most aggressive in the state of Texas providing assistance in the form of grants and infrastructure improvements. The TEDC currently owns the 750-acre Mike Cronin Business Park, a fully developed park with four lane streets and utilities, and has started a 385-acre expansion plan of the Airport Business Park. Additional opportunities to encourage expansion or relocation for new industries are Tax Abatement/Triple Freeport, Texas Capital Fund, Enterprise Zones and Job Training under the Skills Development Fund.
