About
About Provincial Dental Project - BC Children’s Hospital Children, youth and families across British Columbia experience significant inequities in access to timely, appropriate dental care, particularly those living in rural and remote communities and those experiencing societal oppressions related to socioeconomic status, Indigeneity, neurodiversity or racialization. Limited availability of local providers, geographic barriers and gaps in preventative oral health education contribute to unmet oral health needs and downstream impacts on overall health, wellbeing, and healthcare utilization. The Provincial Dental Project, co-led by BC Children’s Hospital and Child Health BC, is a Ministry of Health initiative focused on improving access to out-of-hospital pediatric dental services across British Columbia. Using a collaborative, equity-oriented approach, the project partners with children, youth and their families, Indigenous leaders, Regional Health Authorities and community dental care providers to identify system-level gaps and co-develop sustainable, community-informed solutions.
