About National AI Institute for Exceptional Education AI4ExceptionalEd is a national research institute with support from NSF and IES, reflecting the collaborative work of researchers in Artificial Intelligence and Speech-Language Pathology from nine university partners. We are developing advanced AI technologies for universal early screening and intervention for children with speech and language-related learning disorders. Our research aims to address the disparity between the nearly 3.4 million children requiring services and the national shortage of SLPs in schools. These novel technologies would not only scale the ability of SLPs to provide individualized services but would also lead to advancements in AI, human-AI interaction, and learning science.
