About

About Hesperos, Inc. Hesperos, Inc. is a global contract research organization (CRO) providing drug development services using its Human-on-a-Chip® platform - the most advanced, multi-organ microphysiological systems available today - enabling unprecedent insight into how the human body will respond to therapeutics. The living platforms reproduce function across various human cell types in an interconnected system providing an accurate reproduction of a given disease state and therapeutic response. Including relevant organs and barrier tissues enables a range of applications, such as: reproducing specific disease states, evaluating various drug delivery methods (IV, oral, topical), and investigating the acute and chronic effects of single and multi-drug treatments (for parent compounds and metabolites). The Human-on-a-Chip is particularly valuable for addressing rare diseases where no existing animal models exist. Following the FDA Modernization Act 2.0, regulatory agencies can now accept data directly from Hesperos' systems for new drug filings, providing an alternative path to approval. Notably, a Sanofi IND filing in 2020 relied on efficacy data from a Hesperos system to enable a Phase II clinical trial (#NCT04658472) currently underway. This marked a groundbreaking milestone for the technology and industry as a whole. Ultimately, this breakthrough technology will eliminate the need for animal testing in drug discovery while enabling research into rare diseases previously considered untreatable. With multiple publications in top-tier, peer reviewed journals including: Nature Scientific Reports, Science Translational Medicine, and Advanced Therapeutics, Hesperos’ Human-on-a-Chip is being successfully used by pharmaceutical, and government entities to better understand specific disease states and the human response to therapeutics. https://hesperosinc.com About Hesperos, Inc. These single- and multi-organ in vitro models provide clinically relevant insights into drug safety and efficacy, enabling faster and often more predictive development than traditional methods. Hesperos' advanced multi-organ Human-on-a-Chip models have accelerated development programs across a range of disease areas, with the FDA accepting data in support of five Phase II programs, two of which that already have progressed to Phase III. This continued regulatory acceptance, combined with the recent FDA and NIH pronouncements describing a definitive shift to prioritizing human-based technologies in drug development. Our flexible, phenotypic models can be customized to include relevant organs, cells, or tissues of interest enabling a wide range of applications, from modeling specific disease states to elucidating safety and efficacy profiles of both parent compounds and metabolites. Our growing library of available organ, tissue, and cell types used in various combinations include: cardiac, liver, skeletal muscle, motor neurons (and neuromuscular junction), cortical neurons, kidney RPT, GI tract (barrier), blood-brain-barrier, immune, and patient-specific cells. Hesperos has been awarded over $25 million from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to expand our capabilities. Our multidisciplinary team is led by Drs. Michael Shuler and James Hickman, both internationally recognized pioneers and thought leaders in the field. Hesperos’ work has been widely published in top-tier, peer reviewed journals including Nature Scientific Reports, Science Translational Medicine, and Advanced Therapeutics, among others.
