About Center for Electrochemical Energy Storage | Ulm & Karlsruhe (CELEST) The Center for Electrochemical Energy Storage | Ulm & Karlsruhe (CELEST) provides a broad platform for scientific collaboration, (science) communication, qualification of students' and technology transfer in the field of electrochemical energy storage (EES) ranging from fundamental research to application as well as sustainability issues. Research fields of CELEST members include Li-, post-Li-batteries and alternative electrochemical energy storage conversion systems. The Cluster of Excellence POLiS (Post Lithium Storage) is one of CELEST‘s main activities in the post-lithium area: The focus is on sustainable alternatives based on sodium, potassium, magnesium, calcium, aluminium and chloride ions.
