About Biomedical Technology and Device Research Laboratories, ITRI Technology is fundamentally driven by human needs. As the global population steadily ages, diseases increasingly threaten both life expectancy and quality of life. In response, the advancement of cutting-edge biomedical science and innovative medical device technology is becoming a shared priority for international development. In recent years, the biomedical and medical device industries have experienced double-digit growth in output value, establishing themselves as key focus areas for Taiwan’s industrial development. Aligned with government policy, the Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI) has designated this sector as one of its primary strategic R&D domains. With the rising prevalence of lifestyle-related and chronic diseases, along with a growing emphasis on preventive healthcare, the Biomedical and Medical Device Research Division has committed substantial research and development efforts across a wide spectrum—from prevention, diagnostics, and pharmaceuticals to surgical techniques, medical devices, and patient care. These efforts have yielded impressive results, positioning the division as a vital pillar supporting Taiwan’s industrial progress.
