About

About ABMEC ABMEC: the only Trade Association representing the British mining supply chain. Member companies include • Equipment manufacturers • Component suppliers • Service providers • Educational establishments. With over 50 members, collectively exceeding sales of £1 billion for the export market, these companies work all over the world, in challenging conditions; geographically, environmentally and politically. Members provide products and services to underground mining projects, for longwall, room & pillar and block cave mining methods. ABMEC members also provide surface mines and quarries with drilling, extraction and processing equipment. Their expertise is utilised in the extraction of soft and hardrock materials to provide critical minerals and metals, essential for the energy transition and decarbonisation. Quarrying, tunnelling, marine and O&G are some of the many industry sectors covered by this experienced group of companies. British companies have excellent proven results at extracting minerals, using best practice and the highest safety standards, while delivering cost effective solutions for demanding and challenging environments. Members are competitive in global markets, while complying with tough legislative controls. Many member companies provide specialised equipment for the underground coal mining industry. The equipment produced includes face cutting and extraction equipment, roof support and conveyor systems, materials handling, electrical supply and control, communication systems, gas monitoring and drainage. Coal, disliked by many, is still the most mined product in the world, both in terms of value and weight. It is required for 90% of the world’s steel-making, 70% of the world’s cement production and it supplies over 45% of the world’s energy. While we all strive for a circular economy, in the meantime we support the responsible mining policies and strive to provide the world with a better standard of living. If it can’t be grown (or fished), it has to be mined. Association services include information gathering and dissemination, networking opportunities, the chance to participate in inward and outward missions and access to government funding.
