Established in 2021 and headquartered in Hong Kong, China, GenEditBio is a gene therapy start-up company with an overarching strategic goal to provide potentially curative, once-and-done and programmable in vivo genome editing-based therapeutic solutions (dubbed “DNA surgery”) with high safety profile, unmatched precision and affordable access for genetic diseases that have no cures or lack simple treatments today. GenEditBio is formed by a group of top-notch scientists from academia and industry and visionary entrepreneurs who are passionate in harnessing the power of the Nobel Prize-winning CRISPR-based genome editing technology to bring DNA surgery into clinical reality. GenEditBio is tactically growing and has modern research laboratories and supporting offices in Hong Kong, Beijing and Boston with nearly 70 staffers (dubbed “GEBers”). Two-thirds of GEBers are fully dedicated to the R&D engine. We have two main R&D laboratories: one in the Hong Kong Science and Technology Park (HKSTP) and another one in Vpark of Beijing. Both HKSTP and Vpark are hubs and powerhouses of innovation of the two vibrant cities. Our senior researchers are all experts in genome editing and drug delivery with doctoral degree qualifications and world-class research experience from world’s top 100 universities and research institutions. GenEditBio is financially backed by leading life science investors, including Qiming Venture Partners, Fangyuan Capital, Center Ventures, Lumosa Therapeutics, Innovation and Technology Venture of the HKSAR Government, and HKSTP Venture Fund. Over USD 40M has been secured through angel, pre-A and pre-A+ rounds of funding since 2021 to support our plans in advancing genome-editing technology platforms, including new Cas nuclease discovery and safe and efficient cargo delivery based on LNPs (lipid nanoparticles) and ePDVs (engineered protein delivery vehicles). Over 100 PCT applications have been filed to protect our core technologies. Collaboration: 1) bar-coding based high-throughput LNP platform with NHP validated liver targeting LNP and extrahepatic tissues/organs (immune, lung and heart) under development; 2) non-NGG Cas, novel type II Cas nucleases with diverse PAM restrictions and protein sizes.
