FAA Vertical Flight Aviation Safety Technologies (VFAST) Research Team
The mission of the FAA’s Rotorcraft/Vertical Flight Safety Research Team at the William J. Hughes Technical Center for Advanced Aerospace in Atlantic City, New Jersey is to combine advanced simulation techniques with innovative research to enhance the safety, security, efficiency, and functionality of current and future aircraft. Our team is comprised of dedicated aviation safety professionals with experience and expertise in rotorcraft, vertical lift, and eVTOL/urban air mobility.
Electra
Electra is redefining the future of Direct Aviation with the EL9 Ultra Short — a hybrid‑electric aircraft designed to take off and land in just 150 feet, operate quietly at 75 dBA, and carry nine passengers plus baggage with remarkable range and efficiency. Backed by a $15B+ backlog of over 2,200 LOIs and strategic investors like Lockheed Martin, Honeywell, and Safran, Electra is transforming how people connect by enabling fast, convenient point‑to‑point travel while cutting fuel burn by up to 40% on typical routes. With certification underway and first flight anticipated in 2027/28, Electra’s proven team and breakthrough blown‑lift technology are making the promise of ultra‑accessible regional aviation real. Visit us at Booth B8827 to see how the EL9 is reshaping what an airplane can do.
Advanced Rotorcraft Technology, Inc.
ART is an aerospace consulting firm specializing in rotorcraft engineering solutions and simulation. Products include the FLIGHTLAB Development System, a simulation modeling and analysis tool; VVPM, a high fidelity rotor/wing wake modeling tool; FLAT, an acoustic modeling tool; and the FLIGHTLAB Run-time System, a distributed run-time environment for interfacing FLIGHTLAB models to simulator systems. ART offers consulting services including simulation model development and integration for engineering and research labs, full flight training devices, and simulators; accident investigation; and support for the design and development of rotorcraft and commercial multi-rotor eVTOL advanced air mobility (AAM) aircraft systems. ART has worked with the U.S. Army to develop the Rotorcraft Comprehensive Analysis System (RCAS) and provides ongoing support and enhancement of RCAS under an Army Cooperative Research and Development Agreement. ART also provides a graphical interface to RCAS (GRCAS) as a commercial product. ART is supporting development of the next generation of rotorcraft and eVTOL designs using RCAS and GRCAS.
