VEGA Americas, Inc. started with a visionary founder, Philip Ohmart, who started the company in Cincinnati in 1950, under his own name. “Ohmart” quickly became the specialist in radiation-based instrumentation for level and density measurement in America. Across the ocean in Germany, in 1959, Bruno Grieshaber founded a similar innovative measurement technology company: VEGA Grieshaber KG. Within just a couple of years, this Black Forest company began specializing in the development and production of sensors for measurement of level, point level, and pressure. Throughout the years, VEGA has been dedicated to developing and improving different measuring techniques and has widely been considered the global technology leader in radar since 1997. A partnership between the two companies began around the same time. Ohmart manufactured VEGA-licensed products in North America to offer its customers reliable, consistent measurements. In turn, VEGA increased its knowledge pool from Ohmart’s expertise in radiation-based technology. In 1999, the German company acquired a 50 percent stake in its American partner, who then changed its name to Ohmart/VEGA. In 2015, they unveiled the first 80 GHz radar – the VEGAPULS 69 – specifically designed for solids level measurements. Two years later, they released the 80 GHz liquids level radar, the VEGAPULS 64. Most recently, in 2020, VEGA added five new series of level and pressure measurement sensors and controllers, solidifying their place as a complete supplier of level, point level, and pressure measurement instrumentation providers.
