Cystic Fibrosis Research Institute
Founded in 1975, Cystic Fibrosis Research Institute (CFRI) seeks to be a global resource for the cystic fibrosis community while pursuing a cure through research, education, advocacy, and support. We serve those living with or affected by cystic fibrosis (CF), a life-shortening, progressive genetic disease known for its respiratory impacts but which impacts all major organs. CFRI provides cystic fibrosis scientific research grants through two programs. The New Horizons Program funds principal investigators (PI) at medical and academic institutions across the nation for two-year projects. The program endeavors to fund those applications with the greatest relevance to finding improved treatments or a cure for CF. The Elizabeth Nash Fellowship Program funds post-doctoral fellows nationwide for two-year projects, and encourage collaborative research and communication between the institutions and PI’s. Through its Patrick Nash CF Fellows Training Program, CFRI seeks to develop a multidisciplinary model of care for adults with CF. Selected fellows representing a wide range of medical disciplines participate in an annual symposium, quarterly meetings to encourage collaborative research, and work with expert mentors. Applications for the 2025 program are available March 1 through May 31. In addition to supporting CF research, CFRI provides educational, psychosocial, and advocacy programs and services to those with CF and their families, caregivers, and healthcare professionals. Living with CF is challenging physically, emotionally and financially. We provide resources that address the multi-faceted needs of the CF community while increasing awareness of CF through outreach and advocacy activities.
