Missouri Walnut
Missouri Walnut Group is founded on a simple idea: put all of your effort on one species to be the best producer of that species in the world. This laser focus allows all of our employees to be experts on that species. Missouri Walnut produces only walnut for example. That’s what we do. This laser focus starts with our vendors. We work with premium vendors who buy the best logs; we have the most advanced equipment and technology for sorting and grading; the best steamers and kilns. And we hire the best operators and graders. Finally, we design our processes to be rigidly followed to ensure outstanding, consistent quality. We have now successfully developed processes in three companies for the best quality in the world: Missouri Walnut focuses on walnut. Penn Cherry focuses on cherry. Indiana WO focuses on white oak
Merrick Hardwoods
Merrrick Hardwoods is one of the largest manufacturers of Appalachian Hardwood Lumber in the Kentucky region. Starting in 1985, with one sawmill and concentration facility, Merrick has grown into a vertically integrated company, with two sawmills, two concentration yards, two flooring manufacturing facilities, and wood pellet biofuel facility. Today, several generations of family continue to build the Merrick business, based on a commitment to customer service, to consistent, outstanding quality, and to being good stewards of our forestlands. Merrick’s corporate headquarters and manufacturing facilities are strategically located in the heart of the Appalachian timberlands in Somerset and central Kentucky. Merrick is one of the largest timber and lumber buyers in the region. Merrick owns and manages thousands of acres of timberland in the region. The company has over 2 million board feet of kiln capacity and 1.8 million board feet of pre drier capacity. At Merrick Hardwoods, quality kiln-dried lumber starts with the finest raw materials- Appalachian Timber, a majority of which comes from a 150 mile radius of our facilities. Controlling moisture content is one of the most critical aspects in assuring consistent quality of our lumber. All Upper grades are air dried in T-sheds or predryers before kiln drying, helping keep the lumber bright and defect free. Our computer controlled kilns are run by highly skilled and trained technicians. We take great care to carefully monitor all lumber throughout the drying process so that it meets exacting MC tolerances. We equip our plants with the most advanced machinery, much of which is built by our own machinists. At Somerset, all lumber is graded before and after drying by graders that are NHLA trained. Merrick stocks Red and White Oak, Poplar, Hickory, Hard and Soft Maple, Ash, Cherry, and Basswood Lumber in thicknesses 4/4 to 8/4. Since 1985, we have been manufacturing the best quality wood products in the industry, while offering the highest level of service to ensure the complete satisfaction of each order. This fulfills our mission to “Produce the finest forest products, including lumber and flooring. In addition to providing the best service that translates into 100% satisfaction of the customer.”
