For many years, and still today, some in the industry still refer to MERV as a measurement of a dust collector’s performance. Simply put: this couldn’t be farther from the truth as MERV is a measurement of filter media in a HVAC system. In 2016, industry professionals developed the ASHRAE Standard 199. ASHRAE Standard 199 is an objective method of testing the performance of industrial pulse jet cleaned dust collectors. The purpose of this standard is to provide a quantitative laboratory test method using a uniform testing procedure, and then documenting those results during six stages of testing using the same test dust.
