Onguard Seismic Systems
Developed in New Zealand by Will Lomax and a team of structural engineers with first-hand experience of the destructive power of earthquakes, ONGUARD’s patented tension and compression system dissipates seismic energy in a controlled manner, keeping the tank and its contents protected. The integrated system is built to provide high levels of seismic risk mitigation with the ability to continuously withstand multiple aftershocks. It can be specified from the ground up with new tank installations, including tanks on stands, or retro-fitted to existing tanks to improve their earthquake performance and introduce much-needed resilience. Integrated Structures Inc
Integrated Structures, Inc. provides: Architectural Design, Structural Engineering, and Construction Management, either as a comprehensive package or as separate services to non-profession related clients, developers, architects and contractors on a variety of projects in Northern California and beyond. The company portfolio includes wineries, cold storage builds, retail and office, education, custom homes, religious structures, and tenant improvements and seismic retrofits for a variety of buildings including land-marked historic structures. ISI approaches all projects from an integrated platform; balancing structural design, construction processes and visual appeal to arrive at solutions that, although often unique, are cost effective. In 1994 Integrated Structures, Inc. began research with a high mass, high insulation, fire and earthquake resistant construction system of its own design and was awarded two US patents. The work evolved in a series of designed and constructed structures, including; wineries, cold storage facilities, religious buildings and custom homes. During the 23 intervening years what began as a structural system that could capitalize on free diurnal cooling energy stored in the thermal mass of the walls, evolved into a smart-building system using active radiant heating and cooling in the concrete “skins” coupled with a super-insulated core. Integrated Structures (ISI) is the brain-child and professional practice for R. Gary Black, tenured Professor of Architecture at UC Berkeley. Over the past twenty-five years, Gary Black and his partner Cullen Burda have pioneered a design process for design-build delivery that offers a viable alternative to the traditional and rigidly defined roles of architects, engineers and contractors.
