In 2026, the Academy of Professional Funeral Service Practice (APFSP) proudly celebrates the 50th Anniversary of the Certified Funeral Service Practitioner (CFSP) designation, marking five decades of advancing excellence, professionalism, and lifelong learning in funeral service. Established in 1976, the CFSP designation was created to recognize funeral service professionals who go beyond initial licensure and commit to ongoing education, ethical practice, and leadership within the profession. For 50 years, the CFSP has represented a voluntary commitment to exceed minimum standards – signaling to families, employers, and peers a dedication to growth, knowledge, and service. As we celebrate this 50-year milestone, we honor the thousands of CFSPs who have upheld the Academy’s mission and the educators and providers who partner with us to deliver meaningful learning opportunities. American Board of Funeral Service Education
American Board of Funeral Service Education (ABFSE) accredits 58 schools and programs in the US offering funeral service/mortuary science education. Our mission is to prepare students for careers in funeral service. Accreditation assures that programs meet the standards necessary for licensure and testing.
