Muscular Dystrophy Association

The Muscular Dystrophy Association is proud to partner with fire fighters across the country to Fill the Boot – raising critical funds to support research, care and advocacy for people living with neuromuscular diseases. For 70 years, thousands of dedicated fire fighters from across the country have participated in the Fill the Boot program, standing at street intersections and storefronts with their boots in hand to collect donations – one dollar at a time – from generous community members. The Fill the Boot program has raised over $700 million to date since 1954, making fire fighters the top fundraising partner in MDA history. MDA is so grateful for the hundreds of thousands of fire fighters across America who have participated in Fill the Boot campaigns over the last 70 years and joined in its mission to empower people living with neuromuscular diseases to live longer, more independent lives. The dollars raised through Fill the Boot enable MDA to fund its lifesaving mission to empower the lives of children and adults living with muscular dystrophy, ALS, and related neuromuscular diseases. Every dollar helps families in local communities and across the country. Contributions to Fill the Boot fund groundbreaking research for promising treatments and therapies and provide families with the highest quality care from the best doctors and medical teams in the country. Thanks to continued generous support from long-standing partners like fire fighters, MDA has invested more than $1 billion in research in the last seven decades. These investments have led in-part to many major medical and scientific advances, including the development of more than 20 new FDA approved treatments just since 2015. These new treatments provide significant benefits to individuals living with neuromuscular diseases. Stop by the MDA booth to meet some of our Fire Fighter Partnerships team and learn how to get your department involved with Fill the Boot!
