About
About Sustainable Northwest Sustainable Northwest is a nonprofit forging natural resource solutions that work for nature, people, and local economies. We partner with Tribal and rural communities throughout the Northwest on projects that promote smart water use, clean energy, and healthy forests, farms, and ranches. Our Wood Markets believes we can improve forest and community health by constructing new buildings with sustainable materials. Our wood markets team partners with rural, Indigenous, and urban communities to source the wood needed for new buildings from forestry projects that improve forest and climate health while supporting rural communities and economies. Our most recent accomplishment is sourcing wood for the Portland International Airport’s new main terminal from family and Tribal forests in the Northwest, and tracing the wood from forest to frame. In 2008, Sustainable Northwest founded Sustainable Northwest Wood, a wholly-owned for-profit subsidiary that operates a wood warehouse, sells wood direct to builders and consumers, and offers wood advisor services. Sustainable Northwest, the nonprofit, combined with Sustainable Northwest Wood, the for profit, offer a erange of wood advisor and sourcing services for all builders and their clients looking to intentionally source wood – whether their goals be supporting Tribes, minority- and women-owned businesses, ecological forestry, climate and carbon sequestration, or all of the above.
