About Frederick National Laboratory for Cancer Research The Frederick National Laboratory is a Federally Funded Research and Development Center (FFRDC) sponsored by the National Cancer Institute (NCI) and currently operated by Leidos Biomedical Research, Inc. The laboratory addresses some of the most urgent and intractable problems in the biomedical sciences in cancer and AIDS, drug development and first-in-human clinical trials, applications of nanotechnology in medicine, and rapid response to emerging threats of infectious disease. The Frederick National Laboratory for Cancer Research (FNLCR) is a Federally Funded Research and Development Center (FFRDC) sponsored by the National Cancer Institute (NCI) and currently operated by Leidos Biomedical Research, Inc. FNL is a shared resource to accelerate progress against cancer, AIDS, and infectious diseases. We engage in a) partnerships around cutting-edge R&D and b) subcontracting to supply FNLCR and its customers with high-quality products and services. The Partnership Development Office establishes research collaborations among FNLCR scientists and external researchers. The Contracts & Acquisitions team is responsible for all purchasing and subcontracts. Our scientists conduct basic, hypothesis-driven research and collaborative studies that span a wide range, including genetics, genomics, protein science, proteomics, bioinformatics, high-performance biomedical computing, laboratory animal sciences, and clinical operations. The Frederick National Laboratory serves as the hub-and-spoke model that reaches out to academic, commercial, government, and nonprofit organizations across the country in a united effort. As a shared national resource, we offer access to a suite of advanced biomedical technologies, provide selected science and technology services, and maintain vast repositories of research materials available to biomedical investigators nationwide. These research materials include more than 15 million biological specimens, frozen tumor samples, research reagents, and genetically engineered mouse models of human cancers. The Frederick National Laboratory provides rapid response to emerging health threats, mobilizing effective resources to address disease outbreaks and investigate newly recognized pathogens. We also monitor more than 400 ongoing human clinical trials in the United States and overseas. The laboratory is accelerating progress in the fight against cancer, AIDS, and other infectious diseases; stimulating research collaborations; and creating opportunities for technology transfer and business and economic development. These activities represent the necessary investment to maximize the benefits of scientific discovery and innovation on human health.
