About Emergency Response Assistance Canada Emergency Response Assistance Canada (ERAC) is a national, not‑for‑profit organization dedicated to advancing emergency preparedness and response for dangerous goods incidents across Canada. Formed on March 4, 1986, ERAC was established to ensure that first responders have immediate access to specialized technical expertise when responding to complex and high‑risk transportation emergencies. For four decades, ERAC has played a critical role in strengthening Canada’s emergency response system. Through its operation of the Emergency Response Assistance Plan (ERAP) telephone number, ERAC provides 24‑hour technical advice to first responders, helping them make informed, timely decisions to protect people, product, property, and the environment. ERAC also supports preparedness through regional training, exercises, responder engagement, and collaboration with industry, regulators, and emergency management partners.
